The Bread of Life
Sunday, August 9
I K. 19:4-8; Eph 430:5:2; Jn. 6:41-51
Jesus calls all of us to be the “Bread of Life”. His life was one of giving, ultimately giving of his life for what he believed in, for his ministry. His was not a life of giving a little, but he gave all–in love, in care, in concern, and ultimately his life. We to are called to be the Bread of life to the world, to live our lives in such a way that we are giving of ourselves and resources and in so doing there would be no lack of resources, there would be no lack of peace. If each one of us would simply live out our lives in love and giving then we would not have the problems in the world. Idealistic? well Jesus lived out his life in that manner, his followers have tried in one way or another for two thousand years to adapt his life to theirs–but for the most part his followers are afraid to give up their physical and emotional comfort, Jesus calls us to give it all. People find it weird the way I live my life–but this is my attempt–to live simply, to walk with people one on one every day. Who knows what the future holds, but I do know that I will try to live my life like St. Clare, whose feast we celebrate Tuesday and will try to follow her summons:
“Go forth without fear, for God who created you has made you holy, has always protected you, and loves you as a mother.”

2 Cor. 9:6-10; Jn. 12:24-26
Paul talks of giving generously to the poor, the needy. That is our call. There are times I wonder if what I do really accomplishes anything, but to look in the faces of people who are hungry, who need clothes, and to share their joy is far more then one can asked for. I remember one time when I was low on money, many years ago, the one time in my life when I had to worry about food, only one time, for only a couple of days, and this woman gave me cash to get me through, how much relief and joy I felt and how grateful I was. Whether we know it or not we are giving to Jesus, whether or not the person seems to appreciate it.
I spent the day in Pacifica with some friends from out of town and with Dustin. Dustin is in a hospice we took him to a movie and I took her son on a six mile hike over the coast. It was a beautiful and awesome day, but I went to bed went I got home, I was hellar tired, but an awesome day, hot, clear, beautiful, the coast was super awesome. Deo Gratis! Thanks be to God!
