“Follow Your Heart”
Mk. 2:1-12 . . .This is blasphemy, the teachers of the law said. ‘God is the only one who can forgive sins.’ And Jesus said:, ‘Which is easier: to say: ‘Your sins are forgiven you’ or ‘Take up your bed and walk.’. .I’ll prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’. And he said: ‘Take up your mat and walk’ and the man got up and walked.’
Last night I served the meal and as people came through I watched them, talked to them. One young man–I suppose he is young, 35 or so–was in treatment for a week and left. He was clean, looked nice, but was getting his supplies, and talked of how he has tried to kick drugs, but can’t. Two got into a fight and were just angry over nothing. Later Jacob, 28, got his wallet and supplies stolen and came by to pick up some supplies–just desperate. So much desperation, so much anger. I had a gentleman here yesterday afternoon, a seminarian, whom had emailed me and I simply invited him over and he was asking “Why”, what was my purpose, because he said most people had a purpose in mind to hang out, have lunch. I told him that I simply wanted to know him, and just talk. It is strange how in our society we have to have purpose to see each other. All my adult friends are so damn busy I make appointments to see them. No wonder people are so lonely.
In looking at the Scripture:
Jesus discovers here, as we have, that there are some people who, no matter what you do, will criticize you for it, no matter the service you give. But Jesus shows us what to do in those cases. Go on. Do what must be done regardless of who tries to stop you from doing it. You follow your heart. That is what I have one, and the more I follow it the happier I am.
